AURA - United Artists for African hip-hop - is a group of artists fighting for children’s rights. The musical “Poto-Poto” touches on various themes related to the situation of youth in Africa, including issues such as child soldiers, education for girls, children suffering from AIDS etc.

The artists believe that Africa has the ability to overcome her challenges and they are strongly focused on encouraging youth engagement to this end. They contend that the youth represent the leaders of tomorrow and it is only by engaging Africa’s currently largely marginalised youth population that the continent has a chance of developing.

“Poto-poto” is an initiative supported by the NGO Plan International.

This band – the first one to take such an initiative – has already been on stage in Lome and Cotonou. Children rights are a cross-priority of the Millennium Development Goals.
